Eat Wild: Maryland
A listing of farms that sell pastured products directly to consumers. This is a great website that also features markets and restaurants that sell pastured meats.
Greensbury Market
A great mail-order source of grass-fed beef and other products. They work with a variety of small farmers, so I can’t tell you where your meat will come from — i.e. if it’s local. Maybe they will if you ask.
South Mountain Creamery
This family-owned farm in Middletown, Md. delivers milk, among other things, right to your door — in glass bottles no less. The milk is pasteurized, but you can get milk that has not been homogenized. They are not certified organic, but do not feed their cows hormones or preventative antibiotics. The cows graze in pastures as well as feed on a mixture of hay and (sigh) corn and soy.
The Takoma Park/Silver Spring Co-op
There are two of these — one on Ethan Allen Ave. in Takoma Park and the other on Grubb Rd. in Silver Spring, in the small shopping center with the Parkway Diner. Among the usual assortment of health foods can you usually find pastured eggs from a (relatively) local farm.
U.S. Wellness Meats
For when you are unable to find a local source of grass-fed meat, this Missouri company delivers to your door. In addition to all kinds of meat — beef, lamb, rabbit, bison — they also offer healthy fats such as suet and tallow to cook with.
